The Statistical Analysis Laboratory (LAE) is an academic unit affiliated with the Department of Exact Sciences (LCE) at the “Luiz de Queiroz” College of Agriculture (ESALQ/USP). Established in 2009, the LAE’s mission is to support and integrate teaching, research, and extension activities in Statistics, thereby strengthening academic training and scientific output within the institution and for society at large.

Objectives and Responsibilities

  • The LAE works to disseminate and apply statistical methods, providing support to researchers, faculty members, and students at various stages of the scientific process. Its responsibilities include:
  • Providing statistical support for research and extension projects—ranging from experimental design to data analysis and interpretation—to the ESALQ/USP community and external partners.
  • Offering consulting and training in statistical techniques, with an emphasis on mastering specialized software such as R and other data analysis tools.
  • Contributing to the training of undergraduate and graduate students through guidance on academic projects, dissertations, and theses.
  • Organizing courses, short courses, and lectures aimed at professional development and training in the field of statistics and its applications.
  • Managing and maintaining laboratory resources, focusing on computational tools and modern statistical methodologies.
  • Serving as an internship site for students in the Graduate Program in Statistics and Agricultural Experimentation.

Consultations

  • Location: ESALQ/USP Engineering Pavilion, 2nd Floor – LAE Office (Room 313)
  • Schedule: Arranged by prior appointment, based on the department's availability and specific needs.

Areas of Expertise

The LAE focuses its activities on the following areas of statistics:

  • Experimental Statistics (design and data analysis)
  • Regression Models and their extensions (linear, generalized, mixed, etc.)
  • Multivariate Statistics
  • Sampling and Inference Methods
  • Bayesian Inference
  • Survival Analysis and extensions
  • Time Series and spatial models
  • Computational Statistics (simulation, R programming, numerical methods)
  • Machine Learning

LAE activities are carried out under the supervision of faculty members from the Department of Exact Sciences, in alignment with their respective lines of research. The Coordinator is responsible for receiving and organizing requests submitted to the laboratory, serving as the point of contact and liaison between the academic community and the faculty. In specific cases, the execution of activities may involve the participation of students from the Graduate Program in Statistics and Agricultural Experimentation (PPGEEA), depending on the relevance and context of the requests.
