To this end, the chemistry laboratories have been fulfilling requests from both within and outside USP, aiming to:
- Provide services related to soil acidity correctives;
- Provide services related to mineral, organic, and organo-mineral fertilizers;
- Provide services related to organic waste (e.g., sewage sludge or derived products);
- Develop chemical analysis protocols—including sample preparation, quantification, and result interpretation—for the agribusiness sector;
- Organize lecture series and workshops;
- Create opportunities for extension activities for undergraduate and graduate students.
The main areas of expertise constituting the core activities of the chemistry laboratories are:
- Spectroanalytical methods applied to the determination of metals;
- Spectroanalytical methods applied to the determination of non-metals;
- Separation methods applied to the determination of organic species;
- Methods applied to microbiological identification and selection;
- Chemical analysis methods based on flow analysis systems;
- Microwave-assisted sample preparation methods;
- Others.
The work is carried out under the responsibility of professors from the Department of Exact Sciences, with the participation of department technical staff and students from both graduate and undergraduate programs.
The management of the services provided is supported by the Luiz de Queiroz Foundation for Agricultural Studies (FEALQ).
